Summer Sandal Making Workshop
Join Rachel Corry at G&G on Sunday August 5th to make handmade sandals in a small group!
In this workshop we will making a particular sandal design that is modern, pretty, and simple enough for beginning shoemakers. This sandal consists of a toe strap, ankle straps with a lace, a leather top sole, midsole, and a synthetic or leather bottom sole. Within this simple sandal structure, there will be room for plenty of creative freedom. The color and kind of leather you use, the design of the ankle strap, the width of the upper straps and whether or not to add a small heel or insole support wedge are all examples of choices you will make. This sandal is the perfect unisex starter sandal to learn basic shoe construction.
We will cut out leather pieces for our uppers, fit them to our feet, mark them, glue them and assemble them in-class. Rachel will take the almost-finished sandals back to her studio where she will perform the finishing touches: gluing the soles on to the tops, adding nails where necessary, and sanding the edges down to a even and symmetrical surface. She will then return them to Gravel & Gold in a few days, ready for pick-up and wear!
All materials and tools, including leathers, hardware, and knives will be provided. We're going to limit the size of the workshop to 7 lucky folks, so please get in touch soon if you'd like to join us by emailing Em @ _em@gravelandgold.com.
We are asking for a sliding scale workshop fee, starting at $175.
