“Panda Face” was the first print I ever designed. With zero printmaking skills under my belt, I was mostly clear on the kinds of images I wanted to include on clothing even though I didn’t really have the chops to take into account smart ways to design for silkscreen printing. I wanted to cover bodies with a watchful eye, combined with a joyful pop sensibility. I came up with a sketch and then Holly taught me how to expand the design and make a repeat that would stretch across our extra-large printing screens. It was such a thrill to see the design lock together on the printing table! And I’ve been pleased with how well it has held up through subsequent revivals.
