Inauguration Schedule Horray!
This is the last day of the Bush era.
(Huge sigh of relief.)
From here on out, we're batting this guy. Plus we've got this very, very fine lady. And I am so stoked about it.
I'm planning to watch the inauguration festivities at my neighbors Linden & Arleen's early morning house party. And I just wanted to share the schedule for tomorrow so that you can all be sure to catch the fun as well.
The swearing in of President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joseph Biden will begin on Tuesday, January 20th at around 10 am EST. For us on the West Coast, of course, that means around 7 in the morning. The ceremony typically lasts about two hours, and Obama must be sworn in by noon in Washington. So then, out here, you've got to make sure you get to the TV between 7 and 9 PST in the morning. Supposedly, the swearing in itself will go down at around 8:30 am for us. Here's all that you'll see:
Musical Selections The United States Marine Band Musical Selections The San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus Call to Order and Welcoming Remarks The Honorable Dianne Feinstein Invocation Dr. Rick Warren, Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, CA Musical Selection Aretha Franklin Oath of Office Administered to Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr. By Associate Justice of the Supreme Court The Honorable John Paul Stevens Musical Selection, John Williams, composer/arranger Itzhak Perlman, Violin Yo-Yo Ma, Cello Gabriela Montero, Piano Anthony McGill, Clarinet Oath of Office Administered to President-elect Barack H. Obama By the Chief Justice of the United States The Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr. Inaugural Address The President of the United States, The Honorable Barack H. Obama Poem Elizabeth Alexander Benediction The Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery The National Anthem The United States Navy Band “Sea Chanters”Ooooooo, Aretha! And what is he going to say after all? And to what extent will he be better than Lincoln and Kennedy and King all rolled into one? And will they be very cold? And what the hell is she going to wear? Crucial questions, all. SF Gate has laid out a bunch of Bay Area venues that will be showing the full sha-bang, including info about the jumbo trons down at Yerba Buena and the Civic Center. Bet those will be wild. Plus our lovely friend Jason at Coffee Bar down the street will be hosting a party, with mimosas of course, beginning at 8:30. Or else you can always watch a bit of live streaming from the comfort of your laptop. And if all else fails, I'm certain Linden & Arleen will be happy to welcome you into their home here on the Mesa. It is time to celebrate!
