After using the basic generic period calendar, Wendy ruminated, wouldn’t it be nice to have a better looking version of this thing? Something you don’t mind hanging on the bathroom wall? Or tucking in your nightstand? She mentioned it to Bella while they were at the baby gym, and the idea took root.
Of course apps exist for tracking your cycle, but we are fairly certain nobody wants another reason to pick up their phone. While an app relies on data to tell you how you're feeling, moon cycle wisdom is an invitation to notice and understand your unique rhythms on a deeper level.
This calendar was created as a way to honor your cycle, all parts of it. The cycles of your body are not an inconvenience. Remember those commercials in the 1990s where women just use a tampon or take an Advil and go play tennis (in a white tennis skirt no less) or ball bust in the boardroom? 
It feels tired to portray menstruation as a nuisance to just deal with while you go about your day, as though nothing is happening. Something IS happening and there are many benefits to practicing self-care specific to each menstrual phase.
Tracking your menstrual cycle alongside the lunar cycle is an ancient practice that grounds you to the rhythms of the natural world. There are four phases of the lunar cycle and four phases of the menstrual cycle that reflect distinct similarities. Over the course of four weeks, (on average) our hormones fluctuate with amazing changes that influence everything from energy, to work productivity, creativity, metabolism, immune health, and more. Beginning to learn about your unique menstrual relationship to the moon cycle can be as simple as noticing what phase the moon is in during your period.

No time to be shy in this workshop! We’ll dive right into to asking questions, sharing stories and getting right into what we should’ve learned in sex-ed class, but didn’t. 
After covering the basics of menstrual cycle and fertility awareness, we’ll learn how to use the menstrual cycle, with all its ebbs and flows, as a gift that we can take advantage of. We’ll also cover herbal remedies & nutrition for a healthy cycle, and further resources will be provided.
This class will shed light on new perspectives of being a wombyn, so whether you are on birth control, thinking of getting off, or are birth control free, you’ll be empowered to make the best choices for your body and current life circumstances. Bring your notebook and a girlfriend to this class- you will not want to miss it! 
Veronica Ricksen is a clinical Western herbalist and creator of Kapu, a holistic care company for women. She loves making things and sharing information that help connect women to nature and their bodies. She recently self published the Menstrual Calendar Journal to educate and assist women in discovering the gift of the menstrual cycle, so they can live with more flow, ease and happiness.
The threefold hardship: earthquake, tsunami, radiation going down in Japan right now is overwhelming. We've teamed with our dear friend and shop Maker Shinobu Sering to put together an event this upcoming Friday in hopes of raising some relief funds to send over. Shinobu and her friends will be cooking up delicious homemade Japanese comfort food and serving it, casual style, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The menu will include:
- Hearty Japanese country soup: daikon, carrot, green onion, yam cake, burdock, deep fried tofu, with meat or without meat
- Japanese paella: steamed rice cooked with vegetables and either tofu and chicken or an assortment of mushrooms
- Edamame
- Japanese pickles
 
We are asking a $15 sliding scale donation at the door. Prepared by children sweet things and adults-only beverages will also be on hand and for sale. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund set up by the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California. That includes all proceeds from G&G items purchased during party hours. Please come big, and please give big.
