Zoe Dering is a ceramic artist and former pastry chef native to the San Francisco Bay Area. She is driven by the idea that we should have a closer relationship to our fundamental needs and objects essential to our everyday lives and how they are made. Fascinated by primitive crafts and how they continue to be represented and transformed in our modern lives while maintaining the importance of their original functions.
Zoe's current body of work involves integrating rhythmical sculptural elements into warm, earthy objects that are used in our daily lives. It is a meditation in the movement of the hands, the quieting of the mind and watching (accepting) the patterns that appear while the mind and hands work together, without judgement. Created in limited editions as small collections, each item is unique. Each piece is a reflection of a different passing moment.
