In 2011 I was working on a painting project of reproducing Giorgio Morandi paintings... it was a way to relearn oil painting. If you are unfamiliar with Giorgio Morandi, he painted these simple still life works with an arrangement of different little vases, simple plain white bottles, a few little tea boxes etc. Very elegant, simple, and extremely repetitive. Aside from a few landscape pieces, he did still life after still life after still life... using the same 70+ bottles/ vases over his 40+ years of painting. I copied dozens of different Morandi paintings, and would be reintroduced to the same bottle here and there in different compositions. I loved seeing the same bottles in different set ups, I loved how their change of positions changed the feel of the painting, and I imagined the real world possibilities of making my own bottles and vases.
