"Why frame art when you can wear it? Increasingly, collaborative-minded fashion designers are working with painters and illustrators on vibrant textiles that double as collectible prints. Locally, the movement is led by Gravel & Gold and Nooworks, well-known Mission boutiques rounding out their eye-catching in-house collections with partnerships between the owners and artists they admire. Their graphically rich textiles become flattering silhouettes — including leggings, dresses, jumpsuits and quilted jackets — that interweave San Francisco’s fashion and art scenes."

"When artist and textile designer Cassie McGettigan was living in a commune in Bolinas–a coastal town and counterculture beacon about 20 miles north of San Francisco–nudity was welcome and an everyday norm. She decided to commemorate the breasts she saw by creating simple line paintings. Over time she had enough paintings to create a fabric pattern composed of dozens of boobs, each as unique as a fingerprint. There are big ones and small ones, perky pairs and sets that are a bit more down to earth. Some are an ode to asymmetry, and others have nipples that stare straight into your soul."

Amid the national tossing and turning over the last two weeks, women have been making an effort to gather, regroup, and hold steady. The doula Paula Mallis christened her Los Angeles wellness center, WMN Space, with a pair of new-moon circles. CAP Beauty, in Manhattan’s West Village, dispensed organic face oils along with free “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights” posters designed by theCollectiveShift; farther uptown, members of The Wing, the all-female social club and co-working space, settled in for a sexuality session with the adult emporium Babeland. In the evolving world of wellness, one common theme has emerged: that women are banding together to lead the charge—or the recharge, as the case may be.
