Sandal Making Workshop

We will be gathering on Sunday, June 26th to make custom handmade sandals in a small group! Rachel Corry shall guide us through:

You will be shown two designs to work from directly or to use as a starting off point. The sandals will primarily be made of natural vegetable-tanned leather, with the option of choosing rubber soles which is often more durable. From there, it is possible to make a wide variety of sandals–we can play with strap placement and width, weather to use a buckle, laces, or to tie straps, color choices, even to bedazzle or not to bedazzle remains a relevant question. For simplicity’s sake, this will be a non-sewing activity. We will use rivets when necessary. I encourage everyone to bring in their favorite sandals or any shoes with notable details worth replicating!

The 3+ hour workshop will involve tracing our feet and finding our size and cutting out bottom soles and upper soles. We will punch holes into this layer. We will cut straps  and loop them through, shaving the tabs flat on bottom and using shoe glue to attach the layers.

I will then take the almost-finished sandals overnight and sand the edges to a smooth finish and have them back at Gravel & Gold in 2 days. Then they will be ready to wear!

We are asking for a sliding scale workshop fee, starting at $130. All materials, including leather, hardware, and knives will be provided. And we’re going to limit the size of the workshop to just 10 folks, so please get in touch soon if you’d like to join us by emailing Lady Em at em@gravelandgold.com.

CLASS IS FULL. STAYED TUNED FOR AN ADDED DATE.
