    Oakland, CA | Steuart Pittman earned a BA from Knox College in 2007 and an MFA from Mills College in 2009. His paintings have been shown in the Bay Area, Chicago, and Portland, in addition to a 2010 exhibit in Bogotá, Colombia. He was the recipient of the Jay DeFeo Award in 2009 and was a nominee for the SFMOMA SECA Award in 2010, 2012, and 2018. He received the prestigious Peter S. Reed Foundation Award in Painting in 2016. His work belongs to several major collections, including The Neiman Marcus Art Collection, The Bloomingdale's Collection, The Knox College Art Collection, The Cleve Carney Collection (Glen Ellyn, IL), and The Ellington Collection (Oakland, CA).

    In addition to his painting practice, Pittman has performed and lectured extensively in the Bay Area at institutions including SFMOMA, Berkeley Art Museum, di Rosa, Mills College Art Museum, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Southern Exposure. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The East Bay Express, VICE, Art Practical, SFAQ, KQED, NBC Bay Area, Buzzfeed, and The Onion A.V. Club. He lives and works in Oakland, California, and is represented by Traywick Contemporary.
