Damn Bloody Rite: A Periodic Rag Mag is about blood. Menstrual Blood. It's about people who bleed from their vaginas. It's about accepting vaginas in all their shapes and sizes. It's about discovering first blood and loving it and hating it and everything in between.

It's about the importance of bleeding. It's about dismantling the "ultimate taboo", the stigma, the shame. It's about our experiences. Our Bodies. Our Lives. Our Stories.

More and more women and bleeding people are seeking and finding ways to stop their menstrual cycles from happening altogether. Doctors prescribe birth control as a solution for nearly any issue that comes their way. Having a period is seen by many as a problem to be solved rather than an opportunity to have a relationship with one’s body.

Damn Bloody Rite (DBR) sees the menstrual cycle as a way the body communicates with us, and how we respond is important. This is about health and healing- which involves addressing the messages that have been given to us, our mothers, our grandmothers, great grandmothers and so on. For far too long, menstruation and women's bodies have been defined by the medical industry, advertising industry, patriarchal religions, and a legacy of shamed women who quite possibly never knew the depths of their greatness. Nor Hall says, “Healing must be sought in the blood of the wound itself. It is another of old alchemical truths that no solution should be made except in its own blood.” So, yes, we are getting into the bloody wounds to find the medicine we all need. And fuck yeah, we are going to have fun in the process!

This 28 page half size (5x8") zine features 19 different contributors from all over the world offering their bloody artwork and wisdom. Contributors include queer, gay, trans, and hetero folks across a spectrum of color, first-languages and social backgrounds. Most of the zine is in English with some contributions in Spanish. Printed by a womyn-owned shop on recycled paper with soy based ink, right here in Oakland, CA.
