Nena McMahon is an 85-year-old artist born in Yonkers, New York where she currently lives and works. She creates art using many mediums, including quilting, stained glass, and paperwork, but her most powerful art comes in the form of her jewelry. Her necklaces are handcrafted using macrame, bead work, and metal work. Throughout the 1970's she sold her work at boutiques in the West Village as well as in cities on Long Island.
These necklaces are prime examples of the various styles she expressed over the last four decades and continues to make today. Nena is a beautifully creative woman as well as a source of inspiration and kindness to all who know her, and wear her jewelry. And she wants the buyer to know, "the pieces are best hung from a hook and if they become soiled they are completely washable."
Her surrogate grand-daughter, Sarah Grierson-Dale, also an artist, is working in Tandem with Nena to get her current and past works out into the world again. Sarah lives and works in San Francisco where she was born and raised.
