She provides order to the cosmos out of chaos. In the beginning, she lay on top of the earth god Geb, continuously laying on him. From this union, she gave birth to Osiris, god of the afterlife, Isis, goddess of nature and magic, Set, god of chaos, and Nephythys, the home slice goddess. Her daily task is to ensure the safe passage of Ra, the sun god, swallowing him at dusk, passing him through her belly each night, and giving birth to him each morning.
