Moon Calendar

San Francisco, California

Caitlyn has been drawn to moon lore for the past few years. When she was living back in New York City, after going month (to year) long stretches without seeing any moon, she realized that she really missed how much of an anchor the moon can be and how comforting it feels to be able to keep your eye on it.

Last summer, she spent some time in North Georgia talking to mountain folks about planting by the phases of the moon. She was inspired by the ways communities have used the moon as a calendar and point of ritual for so long. The result is this beautiful, clever moon calendar.

These 2010 calendars were silkscreened by hand at the Mission Cultural Center here in San Francisco. If you look at the close up pic, you’ll see how Caitlyn designed May-October to read the moon’s progress.
