Loosey Lucie

Cassie McGettigan

Fall 2014

When the potter Lucie Rie was forced to flee Vienna in 1938, she had the interior of her entire custom-designed apartment shipped over and re-erected in a mews house in London, where she lived and worked for the next 50 years.

I kept thinking about Lucie around the period I made this print. At the time, I was setting up a new apartment in San Francisco after a long period away from the city, reacquainting myself with the objects I love and thinking about all of the things and attachments that go into providing a sense of home for oneself so that the real work of life can get done. The print includes drawings of items I have in my home, houseplants, a few of Lucie’s pots, and some randomness.
