All the Tired Horses

This is actually a Bob Dylan song, the first off of his 1970 album Self Portrait. It's always stuck to me. I don't know why it's the most comforting thing ever—just two lines over and over, but I wish they would go on forever. The photo montage is not his, nor mine, but it serves the song honorably enough.

Today we took (baby) Ian down to the beach for his first naked time in the sun and the sand and the cold, cold ocean. He behaved just right, stomping and squealing with his tiny feets in the tide. I was humming this song to him under my breath as I showed him around the driftwood palaces. It was a very fine day.
