On my new bookshelf at home, I keep the (mostly 70s) home decorating books next to the (totally 70s) back to the land survival books, which made Brook laugh (and then switched on a light bulb?), but here’s another reason why the two really belong together—B. Allan Mackie’s Log House Plans (1979), on loan from Rory. I appreciate the psychedelic hypercolor cover paired with the let’s get down to business, here’s how you do it information within.

   i think you and i probably have similar bookshelves. i’m obsessed with Sunset vacation and cabin books from the 50s, 60s and 70s, when any family could buy a parcel of land in mendocino and build a little weekend getaway. sigh.
