Pit Bull *Terrier*

My recent discovery of Emir Kusturica’s Black Cat, White Cat has set off a fervent all-aboutness for Gypsy style—the gold teeth, gold everything, the encrusting tendency, making do, wires, cars, florals/geometries, 70s browns, leather skin, the music (of course), the shitty tattoos, the over-muchness. My measly, classic Berkeleymobile, a teal 1997 Subaru, already having sported for some time a hefty Gravel & Gold medallion taken from our old shop window on the driver’s side door, has begun transitioning even more toward all this.
The heart of my obsession, really, shall always be traced to Grga Pitić (Is there any element of Snoop’s style that he hasn’t already laid down?) and to Dadan:
Imagine my delight upon finding another ready trove amongst the dragon’s share at William Stout: Gypsy Architecture, with photographs by Carlo Gianferro and texts by Renata Calzi and Partizio Corno.

It feels impossible to give a sense of the clashing, clanging, loving beauty of the film, these photos, and the people (that boom box shrine!) they depict in just a short post. It’s just a shot.

I love this film. It’s a real classic
